A land block, taken from a drive in easing housing depression in Male’, given to Television Maldives appearing like a ware house, TVM says is rented to Ameen Constructions Pvt. Ltd. some 8 years ago. The block was allocated to TVM development, and 22 years on the piece of land has never been developed but found in a lucrative business market.
TVM says the land was allocated to the media 22 years ago and it was rented to a private construction company for a small amount of Rufiyaa 40,000.00 per month but can be reimbursed with three months notice under the agreement signed between the company and the TV. It was not known how the block of land (in a bid or in insider trading) was lent to Ameen Construction. A source said that he called to Ameen Construction to know how they got the huge land for a warehouse or whatever they use but there was no positive answer from the company saying that they do not hold any records of the agreement and its lost, but said if it were given to them in breach it must have been with the responsible authority. They said they had nothing to do with documentations and process but it’s a rented land.
The ministry also said that there had been some time since the government property was rented and now the whole ministry had been overhauled that they have to check the records of how and under what circumstance that land was rented. The official from the ministry also told Haama Daily that if any details needed concerning the issue would be forwarded if the questions had been sent to the Ministry in black and white.
