Adalath party calls for reduced government expenditure

Adhaalath Party (AP) has called on the government to cut down on its expenses due to severe economic crisis facing the country. AP made the call via a statement issued by the party.

The statement issued by AP noted the country was going through one of the most severe economic crises seen in contemporary history. The statement called on the government to obtain Majlis approval before spending large sums of money on any project not included in the budget. Further the statement also called to delay any projects which are yet to commence and also to delay the remaining phases of all ongoing projects, where possible, till next year.

Moreover AP called on the government to immediately stop the SAAF Championship trophy tour made to the atolls as a measure of cutting down on government expenditure and to urgently minimize the expenses of the presidential palace . AP also called on the government to utilize local religious scholars during the government conducted program to revive and renew the spirit of Islam, instead of bringing foreign religious scholars. AP urged the government to minimize government spending on Independence Day celebrations and other such functions. Adhaalath Party also called on the government to conduct public awareness programs on cost cutting measures via the state media and other media out lets.

Government early last week introduced cost cutting measures. As part of its initiatives President Office instructed all government agencies to minimize costs incurred on foreign travel, communications, electricity, and transport.
