Former Tourism Minister Dr. Mahmoud Shaugy who recently resigned from the government on the 2 of this month has revealed that he will quit the ruling party, Dhivehi Rahyithuge Party some time today. Speaking to last night Dr. Shaugy said that he had already submitted his resignation letter and in case it was not accepted as he send the letter in night time he will be submitting a letter again sometime today.
Shaugy did not reveal the reasons behind his resignation but it is believed that he will remain free from the government influences.
But others believe Dr. Shaugy’s resignation from the DRP is intended to facilitate him joining Jumhoory Party (JP) which is currently under going final registration process.
Dr. Mahmoud Shaugy served several top level government positions such as Education Minister and Tourism Minister. Political analysts believe that his resignation from DRP will seriously affect the party’s popularity. Last Monday, former Finance Minister as well as one of the Vice Leader of the party, too, resigned.
