Gayoom says informing the truth will bring in votes


Leader of Dhivehi Rahyithunge Party (DRP) Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that in order to win the forthcoming presidential elections DRP needs to inform ‘the truth’ to the people. He made the statement, yesterday evening, speaking at the closing ceremony of the second congress of the party held at Dharubaaruge.

DRP leader said if the party can bring to the attention of the people the situation the country was in 1978 and the developments the country had achieved over the last 30 years, people will vote for DRP.

Speaking at the closing ceremony Leader Maumoon looked at some statistics. He said in 1978 average mortality age for men were 48 and 46 for women and that currently average mortality age for men stands at 72 and 73 for women. He said in 1978 there were only 7 doctors in Maldives and that at present there were 558.

He said in 1978 there were only 4 schools in Maldives and that at present there are 221 schools. He said there were no secondary schools in the atolls and that at present there are some 170 schools.

Average per capita income in 1978 was US $ 300 and that at present average per capita income stood at US $ 2800.

DRP Leader said if the party can point such developments the country had achieved in the last 3 decades, DRP will succeed in wining the elections.
