Damages to buildings, sea going vessels and other equipment have been reported due to last Night’s squally showers.
Roofs of some houses were thrown away while some trees also fell. A boat building house in Dhaalu Atoll Kudahuvadhoo also received severe damages.
Meteorology department said that wind was up to 62 mph between morning 0100am to 5.30 . Due to heavy wind it was unable to travel and wind brush coastal, and damages many vessels.
MNDF revealed that 4 boats in Male’ harbor brush away. 3 of these boats struck to the reef of Hulhule’ while the other boat was near Market area. Work is in progress to salvage 2 boats which struck to the reef, according to MNDF. These boats are from Villa and MNSL.
Major Afzal from MNDF Coastguard said that 9 incidents in sea took part in last night’s squally showers while almost all boats in the harbor received various damages as they hit against each other. He remarked the importance of keeping as many crew members as possible inside boats in bad weather.
Hulhule was also flooded last night due to waves. Meteorology says that it was extra ordinary bad weather last night although this is the rainy season.
Meteorology has warned that strong winds and rough seas are expected over the country.
