Republican Party elected Shaheed Zaki for interim president

Raa atoll MP Ibrahim Shaheed Zaki has been elected as the president of the interim organizing committee of Jumhoory Party (JP) at the pre registration meeting of the party held at Kudahuvadhoo of Dhaalu atoll yesterday night.

At the meeting an interim organizing committee was elected to oversee and manage party affairs until congress meeting can take place. Members elected are Ibrahim Shaheed Zaki, ADK Nashid, MP for Dhaalu atoll as well as founder of JP, Special Majlis member for Thaa atoll Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, MP for Ga atoll Mohamed Saleem, Special Majlis member for Ha atoll Ahmed Sameer,MP for Thaa atoll Mohamed Shareef (Senco) , MP for Alif Alif atoll Ahmed Zubair. In addition 3 ordinary members were also elected to the interim organizing committee. They are Ali Shareef, Ali Shaheem and Mohamed Fiqry. At yesterday’s meeting members also endorsed the party governing procedures.

Speaking at the meeting founder of the party ADK Nashid said the meeting was held in Kudahuvadhoo Island due to the tremendous support afforded to the party from the atoll. He said JP will be the party that will bring back the lost freedom and traditions of the people. He further disclosed that it was not his intentions to contest for the party presidency or the vice presidency.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting Nashid said that JP is very concerned over the delay in the ratification of the constitution. However he noted that JP preferred to make the president aware of the delay instead of forcing the ratification out of him.

Responding to media questions over alleged backing and financing from former finance minister and billionaire turned politician Qasim Ibrahim, Nashid replied that so far the JP had not received any financing from Qasim. However he revealed that just as any other citizen Qasim was welcome to JP anytime and that JP will welcome him warmly.

When asked whether JP had any intention of joining the opposition Alliance, Nashid replied that JP will collaborate with any party working for reform.
