Teachers to meet on 1st August

The teachers’ association has said that they are to hold a meeting on the night of 1st August.

The Association said that they are meeting to decide what to do next as there have been no change in teachers’ salary after one month’s deadline was given to the government.

“A decision will be made in that meeting. Now also we are meeting different institutions. Pay Commission also said that they would also have done it if there was any way. But they say that there is no money in budget” Abdullah Mohamed, who spoke on behalf of the association said.

Abdullah said that teachers were given a form to fill regarding a decision they would like to take. He said that the forms are also being reviewed now.

“These forms show that most teachers want some sort of protest. But we haven’t checked all the forms yet. A decision will be finalized in the meeting” Abdullah said.

“It’s been about a month since the teachers’ association requested an appointment with President Maumoon. But till today, we didn’t get an appointment” Abdullah said.

Education Ministry said that it was not their duty to increase teachers salary but its duty of the civil service commission according to the article 43 of the civil service law.

Civil service commission says that they cannot do it of the budget doesn’t allow and finance ministry could only do it.
