Adalath and National Congress to support Gasim

In a dramatic new development, Adalath Party and National Congress have endorsed the presidential candidature of leader of the new Jumhory Party, JP at a news conference held today. Presidents of Adalath and National Congress Sheikh Hussain Rasheed and Mohamed Naeem respectively flanked by JP leader Gasim Ibrahim and Deputy Abdullah Jabir, gave their reasons for the big decision. This decision will be a big boost to JP in its bid for presidency of the country.

Speaking at the meeting Gasim, former Finance Minister and billionaire businessman said his party is open for all parties in forging a strong alliance, and his policy is one of working in unityand diversity. Adalath president Hussain Rasheed said, they were open to work with some other parties which they have not availed and now they have taken the decision to support Gasim's candidature.

Gasim who resigned from President Gayoom's powerful finance portfolio and his party DRP's deputy leader's post last month over major disputes on the government budget joined JP on the 7th of this month few hours after the new Constitution was ratified by President Gayoom. He was elected JP's leader and endorsed as its presidential candidate at the party's first national conference on Friday.

Speaking at the conference, Gasim vowed he will be loyal to the people and deliver the nation to the people who are its rightful owners Gasim said Islam would be the main pillar of the party and democracy will be JP's basis. JP will uphold the constitution, guarantee justice and rights for all, transform the country into a law abiding society. Gasim went on to say he is committed to serving the people and the nation in a way resources of the country well be utilised in a manner which would benefit the people and he will run and manage the affairs of the country according to fair and just policies.

The billionaire politician Gasim, who has established a strong political base during the past years and who has a close affiliation with the opposition, also said he will work in the inerest of the nation and there are no enemies among us, The enemy is is the system which deprived the people of their rights, the system of discrimination, the system which rought hatred and corruption, the system which cultivated the drug menace, the system which deprived the people of shelter, the system of begging for medical and welfare assistance, Gasim said.
