AP is not sold out to any one – Sheikh Shaheem

Adhaalath Party (AP) after rejecting several offers of president Gayoom government will not accept any from JP, the party of the billionaire politician Qasim Ibrahim, Chief Spokesperson of AP Sheikh Ahmed Shaheem has said.

Shaheem made the statement in response to DRP allegations that AP had sold out Jumhoory Party (JP). DRP’s allegations came shortly after JP announced the Jumhoory coalition formed with AP and Maldives National Congress. DRP Leader was speaking to a crowded meeting last night in Ha Dhidhdhoo during his current tour to the two northern atolls in his election campaign claimed that AP has sold the party for monitory gains.

Chief spokesperson Shaheem stated that President Gayoom is fully aware that AP is not a party that will succumb to monetary benefits or gains.

“DRP leader Maumoon is trying to discredit AP, Maumoon wants to show the citizens that after refusing to join him when he had absolute authority, AP decided to join another party , when he is in a weakened state, by the will of Almighty Allah he will not succeed” Shaheem said.

According to Shaheem AP’s policies, thinking and actions are all based on the development of the people. He said every decision of AP is for the betterment of the country, its religion and social harmony.

“We didn’t allow DRP to buy us, now why would we sell the party to JP or Qasim, those days we were picturing Maumoon as somebody who has fallen from the heavens; however as the president of the country he has been practicing things that are not befitting a president” Shaheem said.

According to Shaheem , AP prefers to hand to over the reins of the country to a leader who does not have hidden business agendas and somebody able to take care of himself. He said in this regard the decision to support JP’s candidate is the best decision for the current situation.

“We have held discussions with JP on a lot of issues, where are the key people who worked for the constitutional reform? They are now in JP, why did they change directions; it is a must for us to join them in order to change the present status of the country” Shaheem said.
