The commissioner of elections office announced an estimated eligible voters list for the forth coming presidential election. The deputy commissioner of elections Shaukath Ibrahim said that this assessed list also would contain the names of would be eligible after the November 11, 2008.
According to the constitution those who are below 18 to the date of election is not eligible to vote in the presidential election. The constitution says that all presidential election process should have been completed before August 10 this year.
Mr. Shaukth said this list can be revised accordingly.
The commissioner’s deputy said that the list would be posted on its website today and would announce it in the islands as well. He said that the list is open for opinion and re-correction.
According to Mr. Shaukath the difficulty in producing and establishing a complete and final list is due to maintaining the records of the deceased and newborn from different institutions.
Shaukath also said that each island would count its votes in this election and arrangements for vote counting had been decided.
