MDP Presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) has stated that MDP has a huge support in Huvadhu atoll. Anni made the statement speaking at a meeting held with Ga islanders at MDP Haruge. The meeting initiated by MDP Gdh Branch at the request of large number of Gdh MDP supporters was to seek out ways of increasing the party support in the atoll.
Speaking at the meeting Anni highlighted the immense support and welcome expressed by Ga islanders during his recent visit to the atoll. He noted that billionaire Qasim joining Jumhoory Party has not made any difference to the atoll.
At the meeting Gdh islanders expressed interest in maintaining the existing support for Anni and MDP. Islanders also expressed their interest to take part in the MDP presidential campaign in the most revealing fashion.
Islanders noted that a combined effort by the ‘rich’ is underway to buy votes. Anni advised the islanders to report such encounters to the Anti Corruption Board, Police and Transparency Maldives without delay.
“Withholding information of any such encounters will be considered being a party to such activities, as far as I am concerned there will be no buying of votes” Anni said.
At the meeting, a 10 member committee from Gdh islanders residing in Male’ was formed to coordinate and supervise campaign activities in the atoll. Fathuhulla Adam was selected as the head of the committee.
