Jumhoory Party and Peoples Alliance registered



Jumhoory Party, JP and People's Alliance, PA have been registered as political parties by the Commissioner of Elections K D Ahmed Maniku yesterday. The registry of Jumhoory Party was handed to founder of that party ADK Nashid while registry of People's Alliance was given to its President Abdulah Yamin. Commissioner of Elections has given permission to form these two parties on 28 May and 7 May respectively.

With the registration of these two parties, there are 10 political parties in the country. They are Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, DRP, Adalath Party, Islamic Development Party,IDP, National Congress, Liberal Party, People's Party, Maldives Socialist Democratic Party, Jumhoory Pary and People's Alliance.

With the registration of Jumhoory Party and People's Alliance, analysts believe there will be lot of new politics and activities. While PA belongs to President's brother powerful and influential politician Abdulla Yamin, Jumhoory Party is said to be former Finance Minister and billionaire Gasim Ibrahim's party. Both of them are powerful and popular politicians who are expected to run for presidency in the coming election. They are both highly electable and the real race for the presidency is about to start with the coming of these two parties.

President Gayoom who is the presidential candidate from DRP is widely expected to win the election while many believe MDP presidential hopeful Mohamed Nasheed Anni is also gaining a lot of support.
