The Perfect Democracy is Within Reach after 3 Decades of Misery


The forth coming presidential election without hindrance to win the president of the Republic His excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom said that he is very confident to be the next elected president in the republic for his ‘dedicated and steadfast commitment’ to the public and country.

He made the statement in an interview to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation when he was asked how confident he was about representing the Maldives at the 2009 SAARC Summit in Male’. He said that the people know him well and what he had delivered that they know what to expect from his leadership. He said that his entire track records of ‘(un) delivered promises’ would make him put on the executive seat for the next term as he indicates is final.

The president said that he has transformed the country from rags to the highest level of society and nation within the South Asian Region.

Mean while the opposition cry foul over the presidents domestic and foreign policy saying that he has ruined the country once he was hailed as a hero. But even then there had been huge crack down on those the government says infiltrating the country and directing the public in disillusion until rival political parties stood as a barrier on such issues.

The President highlighting his reasons behind to seek the presidential office for a further term said that one more five-year term would allow him to complete his promise of democratic reforms to the people. “That will be my legacy to my people”, he added.

The President Gayoom also gave an exclusive interview to Sri Lanka’s state broadcaster Rupavahini. In the interview, he focused on the growth of SAARC, and the highlights of the 15th SAARC Summit in Colombo.
