Maldives reform Movement has said that they are trying to seek legal advice from expertise lawyers abroad whether President Maumoon could seek re-election under the recently ratified revised constitution.
A Press statement from the movement said that they started this work as this is a problem related to the revised constitution and to the spirit of democracy. It also said that the people all over Maldives are so very much concerned about the matter. They said that it was also important to seek expertise legal advice as the Supreme Court is not yet established while there is very little time left for the Presidential elections.
The government also Seek expertise legal advice from lawyers abroad in controversial issues, Reform movement says. They say that Maldives government took legal advice from a Sri Lankan lawyer over disputed in electing the speaker of the people’s majlis in year 2004.
