Interim Chairperson of the newly registered political party, National Congress, Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that if members should decide that he should run for presidency at the party’s congress then he shall do so. Speaking at the first press conference held by the party, after being officially registered, Dr. Waheed said the party was formed after enduring considerable hardships. He said the Election’s Office granted the authority to form the party on 25 December last year and that due to tremendous hard work of supporters and well wishers and initiatives of party founders; National Alliance is now officially registered.

Waheed informed that party’s first national conference will be held on September 10, on Wednesday night. The first national conference will elect the party’s council members and reach a decision on producing a presidential candidate to contest the presidential elections. Work on the party policies and manifesto are underway and will soon be completed, Waheed said.
