My running mate should be able to continue my polices - Umar

Presidential candidate of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP)Umar Naseer has declared that his running mate will be a person capable of maintaining and strengthening his policies.

Responding to a journalist yesterday at press room Fansavees / Dharubaaruge, Umar said presently he is scrutinizing possible running mates to select the best and that he will reveal his running mate when the Election Commissioner announces presidential elections. He said the main reason for the delay in announcing his running mate is that IDP’s standards and policies are different to that of other parties.

“I firmly believe that my running mate should able to continue and maintain my policies in the event that I am incapacitated, for what ever reason” Umar said.

Umar said that IDP is shocked to see MDP supporting to elect an Election Commission favorable to DRP. Umar condemning the MDP action of supporting to elect an Election Commission favorable to DRP said he cannot accept such tactics. However he said he accepted the legality of the Commission.

Speaking on the MDP proposal to appoint foreign judges to the Supreme Court, IDP presidential Candidate Umar said it will be an insult to the dignity and pride of the citizens and as such it cannot be accepted.

When asked whether IDP was taking to Jumhoory Party (JP) with regard to joining Jumhoory Coalition, Umar said at JP’s requests talks were held between two parties and that Adhaalath Party and Maldives National Congress (MNC) also participated. He said the discussions took place approximately 3 weeks ago and that talks failed as neither JP’s presidential candidate Qasim or IDP’s candidate Umar was will step aside.
