Male',Maldives:Anni says he is well versed in the country’s governing system


Male',Maldives:Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) has said his knowledge of the country’s rulers and how the country was ruled is better than anybody else in the country.

He made the statement speaking at a news conference held at Moo Kai Hotel by MDP alliance and opposition parties backing MDP.

MDP coalition’s presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) said that no body can challenge him and that he is knowledge of the country’s governing system is impeccable. He said it is because of this knowledge that he wants to change the present system of government and establish a government which will respect the rule of law and uphold democratic values.

“I have to blow my own trumpet now, I have to say that there is no body in the present government who can stand up to me, there is no body better than me who has system well, I have done higher studies, I can add six letters after my name, there are few people in the country who has got as many certificates as me” said MDP presidential candidate Anni.

Speaking at the news conference MDP coalition’s running mate Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik said in electing a president, people should not look at the ‘faces and necks of the candidates’ but rather on what the candidates will do for the country. He considering the candidates contesting the runoff elections, Mohamed Nasheed is the most suitable and capable leader for the country.

“For the last 30 years people have been seeing only one face, that is Gayoom, the country does not need a new or young Gayoom “Dr. Waheed said.

Dr. Waheed said the allegations that Anni does not have the capacity to lead the country carry no weight. He said Anni fulfill the qualifications required of a president stipulated in the constitution. Dr. Waheed further pointed Anni won the MDP primaries held to elect the party’s presidential candidate and that his candidacy has been approved by Interim Election Commission. As these allegations cannot be justified, Waheed said.
