President-elect Mohamed Nasheed's cabinet has been announced a short while ago at a press conference in Hilaaleege. Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, Spokesman of President-elect Nasheed has said Nasheed has held deiscussions with leaders of the MDP alliance and selected his cabinet. According to Zaki, Nasheed's cabinet will comprise of 14 ministries.
President Nasheed who will be sworn in at a special ceremony on 11 November will appoint the following as his cabinet.

Minister of Finance and Treasury Ali Hasim
Ministry of Foreign Afffairs Dr. Ahmed Shaheed
Minister of Health and Family Dr. Aminath Jameel
Minister of Defence and National Security Amin Faisal
Minister of Education Dr. Musthafa Luthfee
Attorney General Fathimath Diyana Saeed
Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Rasheed
Minister of Tourism Dr. Ahmed Ali Sawad
Minister of Human Resources Youth and Sports Hassan Latheef
Minister of Housing, Transport and Environment Mohamed Aslam
Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Dr. Ibrahim Didi
Minister of Civil Aviation and Communication Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed
Ministry of Islamic Affairs Dr. Abdul Majeed Bari
Out of the 14 ministries Gasim Ibrahim's Jumhoory Party alliance has got 4 ministries, Dr. Hassan Saeed party has got two ministries and Ibrahim Ismail's MSLP has got one ministry.
According to Zaki, new atoll chiefs will also appointed after the inauguration of President-elect Nasheed. The functions of the atolls ministry will now go to the new Home Ministry according to reliable information.
The new cabinet will have to be endorsed by the People's Majlis as required in the constitution.
President Nashed's cabinet of 14 minitries is a significant reduction of the number of ministries in the cabinet of outgoing President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Nasheend's cabinet is hailed by a large number of people as a first step towards embracing good and effective governance and accuntability.
