Nasheed to Visit India on Official Trip after Taking Oath-Zaki

The president elect Mohamed Nasheed has received an official invitation to visit India, Nasheed’s official spokes person Ibrahim Hussain Zaki has said at a press conference held at Maalam Fansavees, Dharubaaruge’. He said Nasheed is expected to leave for India after taking his oath as the president of the Republic of Maldives.

Zaki said that there had been a confusion of the president elect taking oath at a Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) function but he said it was not just an oath that it must be made before the parliament. He said the process should be done in the parliament and necessary arrangements already begun for Nasheed to take the oath.

The spokesman for the president elect Nasheed speaking to reporters said that the international community has promised to help the Maldives during the transition and he said they would not abandon Maldives at a time the country need assurance for its smooth running.

Mr. Zaki said that on Monday 5 countries has sent greetings to Nasheed on his election win as president of the Republic of Maldives. Nasheed received official greetings from the Ambassador for the Maldives Peter Hayes, American Ambassador Robert Blakes, German Ambassador Jorgan Beth, Japanese Ambassador Kyoshi Araki, and Chinese ambassador for Maldives Yada bo.
