State Minister for Foreign Affairs departs to attend International conference on Financing

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem, has departed Male’ to attend the Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus to be held in Doha, Qatar from 29 November to 2 December 2008.

Foreign ministry informed that his conference will be an important gathering of Heads of States and Government and their representatives since the Conference in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2002 and that the conference will reiterate the commitments of the International Community to address the challenges of financing for development in the spirit of global partnership and solidarity. The Conference will commit to eradicate poverty, achieve sustained economic growth and promote sustainable development as we advance to a fully inclusive and equitable global economic system, foreign ministry said.

Foreign ministry also said that the Conference will provide a significant international platform for the Maldives to raise our concerns, with the view to further renewing support and commitment of the international community in meaningfully addressing relevant issues of concern.

In addition, at the sidelines of the Conference, State Minister Naseem will also have bilateral meetings with government officials and important stakeholders to discuss and explore possible development opportunities for the Maldives.

State Minister was accompanied by Dr. Hussain Niyaaz, Executive Director and Thilmeeza Hussain Assistant Director of the Ministry.
