President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed on Thursday visited the island of Dhan’gethi as part of his ongoing tour of South and North Ari Atoll.
Speaking to the island community President Nasheed said the government will do whatever possible to develop Dhan’gethi as a cultural centre.
He pledged the government would do what ever necessary to ease the difficulties faced by the people. Speaking on the island’s harbor issue, he revealed the government had plans to construct a yacht marina in the island. He said a harbor would be developed during the work to construct a yacht marina. He further said work to develop the marina would begin this month, and that the project would be opened for bidding soon.
President Nasheed also announced the sewerage system for the island would be in place within the next two years said Dhan’gethi and Male’ would be connected via the proposed transportation network this year.
Speaking to the people of Dhan’gethi, President reiterated that the country’s wealth and resources belonged to all Maldivians. He added it was his government’s prime responsibility to pursue development in a sustainable manner so that future generations would benefit too.
At the meeting, a commemorative plaque was presented to the President on behalf of the people of Dhan’gethi. Special Envoy of the President, Ibrahim Hussain Zaki also addressed the meeting. After the meeting, the President visited the cultural centre in Dhan’gethi.
