Majlis endorse govt. proposed names for Ambassadors

People’s Majlis on Wednesday endorsed the names submitted by the government as Ambassadors to UK, Malaysia and India.

The government has proposed the Dr. Farahanaz Faisal of H. Ameeneege as Maldives Ambassador to UK, Mohamed Zaki of M.Ahmadhee Aabaadhu as Ambassador to Malaysia and Abdul Azeez Yousuf of M. Dhoonihura as Ambassador to India.

In the vote taken, Majlis endorsed Dr. Faisal by 28 votes. 2 members voted against while one member abstained. Mohamed Zaki (Nazaki Zaki) was endorsed by 19 votes in favor, 9 members voted against while 5 members abstained. Azeez was endorsed by Majlis majority with 32 members in favor. One member abstained.

Hdh member Ahmed Abdulla, chairperson of the 7 member Majlis adhoc committee, which had securitized the names proposed by the government as Ambassadors to foreign countries, briefing the Majlis on the committee’s activities said, that the committee has summoned the proposed ambassadors to the committee and had interviewed them. He said the committee had assessed the candidates’ capabilities, their credentials and their projected visions during their term in office. He said the committee saw them most fit and suitable to be ambassadors representing Maldives in foreign countries. The committee’s report had noted that Raa member Shaheed Zaki had reservations in endorsing Nazaki Zaki as ambassador to Malaysia.

Majlis assigned the task of scrutinizing the names proposed by the government as ambassadors to the 7 member committee on the 2 nd of this month. Abdul Azeez Yousuf, Ambassador proposed by the government as Ambassador to India, also served as Ambassador during the administration of President Gayoom.
