Football: South China have reached the knock-out rounds of the AFC Cup following a 3-1 victory over V.B at the Hong Kong Stadium. Needing at least a draw to advance, the match started in the worst possible fashion for the hosts with the Maldives team scoring straight from the kick-off through Ashfal Ali.
Brazilian striker Leonardo equalised two minutes before half-time while Leung Chun Pong headed Kim Pan Gon's team ahead after 57 minutes. Leonardo scored his second goal eight minutes from time with a powerful shot into the top corner to settle the result.
South China finish top of Group G and that means they have home advantage in the next round.
