President Appoints New Attorney General

President Mohamed Nasheed has yesterday appointed Dr Ahmed Ali Sawad as the new Attorney General.

The swearing-in ceremony was held yesterday morning at the President’s Office. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Areef.

Speaking after the presentation of the letter of appointment, President Nasheed expressed confidence that Dr Sawad would diligently fulfill his responsibilities as the Attorney General.

Dr Sawad previously served as the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

After the resignation of former AG Husnu Suood at the termination of the interim period last Saturday, President’s Office set the swearing-in ceremony of Sawad for Sunday. However, it was postponed until the Supreme Court judges were appointed
