President Mohamed Nasheed yesterday inaugurated the harbour construction project of Kaaf atoll Dhiffushi.
Addressing the people of Dhiffushi after inaugurating the project, the president underscored that the government’s policy was to develop harbours as commercial centres that would foster development and connectivity of the country.
In this regard, the president said the government’s aim for Dhiffushi was also to develop the island’s harbour as a commercial centre that would facilitate the island’s as well as the region’s development.
Speaking on how the government’s achievements in delivering its pledges benefit the island, President Nasheed said 146 of the island’s residents were insured under Madhana social health insurance scheme, while a total of 46 residents received Rf2000 per month as the old age pension initiated by the government.
In addition, he said 1588 passengers have begun their journey in Dhiffushi, and 1701 passengers have ended their journey in the island using the government’s new transport network.
