SAFF Championship preponed

May 26:South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has preponed the SAFF Championship to be held in Kathmandu by two weeks.

Issuing a press statement on Sunday, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) informed that the regional championship will held from September 1 to 11. Earlier, the tournament was scheduled for September 18 to 30.

The tournament has been preponed as its date coincided with two other tournaments of Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Nepali league champion Laxmi Bank Three Star and Pakistan´s KRL Football Club are to play the AFC President´s Cup from September 23 to 29 while Indian club East Bengal and New Radiant FC of the Maldives are to participate in the AFC Cup from September 17 to 24.

Nepal is hosting the regional tournament after 16 years. Nepal had hosted the first edition of SAFF Championship at the Dasharath Stadium in 1997. Nepal has never reached the final of the championship.
