Major General Zahir appointed as National Security Advisor


President Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) has appointed Major General Mohamed Zahir as the National Security Advisor. He was previously the Chief of Defense Force, while Brigadier Moosa Ali Jaleel who previously held the position of Vice Chief of Defense Force was appointed as the Chief of Defense Force.

Following the resignation of Commissioner of Police Adam Zahir, President Nasheed appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh as the Commissioner of Police.

The three appointments were made at a ceremony held at the President’s Office yesterday evening.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Nasheed urged the three newly appointed officials to fulfill their responsibilities in a just and lawful manner. Highlighting that a majority of the Maldivian population comprised of youths, President noted the necessity to prevent such issues as violence and drug abuse in the country. He also urged them to help provide a happy and prosperous life to the people.

President Nasheed has appointed Mohamed Aswan of G. Samantha as the Principal Collector of Customs and Mohamed Zuhair of M Vainujeheyge as the Press Secretary at the President’s Office.
